As many of you may have noticed I've been posting a little bit more than usual.  Well, that's because I can finally start sharing some of the work I've done over the last two years with author A.R. Bingham for his upcoming novel 'Omnidisk: The Mission.  Not only did I do the cover but I've also done the character designs for all of the heroes and villains.  I even designed a couple vehicles.  There's a bunch of work that I'm going to be sharing so keep checking back here often.

As for the book itself it is being released on July 6, 2020.  It will be available in print and digital.  You can check out the official site for more information and availability of the book here:

One of the little art dreams I always had was to be included in an Artbook of some kind. Well, a little over a year and a half ago I was contacted by AnimEigo (an American based anime distributor) and asked if I would like to contribute some art for a contest. The winner would have their art published in the artbook that would accompany the 'Gunsmith Cats' Blu ray set. I'm a huge fan of the anime, the manga and of the creator himself Kenichi Sonoda. So, of course, I was all in. Sonoda himself would pick the winner and when he did, I wasn't even in the top three.

I was so confident in the picture I did I thought I was a shoo-in. But alas I wasn't and the dream was over because only the top winner would get their picture published and I wasn't that guy. I was in the dumps for a while after that, but I eventually got another email from AnimeEigo asking if I'd like my name included on a credits page for contributing. I figured it's better than nothing, I guess, so I agreed. A few weeks passed and I received another email with a PDF of a proof of the Gunsmith Cats Artbook. I opened it and sure enough, my picture was in the proof version of the book. It was still early on in the production. They were still finalizing what would be included in the book so I wasn't guaranteed I'd actually make in. It was eventually decided that the book would include all of the named winners and the top runners up which I was one of.

So a little dream did come true and I'm officially in an artbook.  While I may have not been the best in the eyes of one of my manga heroes, I'm still sharing the pages with him and that's pretty neat. If you have any interest in purchasing the Blu ray (the artbook is only available with the Premium Set) it can be found at

Commissions?

1 min read
Hey Everyone,

Over the past couple of months, I have received several commission requests. For those that I've put on the waiting list, I'm here to tell you I have not forgotten you.  My current commission project I'm working on is very extensive.  As of this point, I really can't give a definitive time-frame of when I'll be able to start anything new yet.  I thank all of you for your patience.  As for those possibly looking for a commission from me, I have to reiterate that I won't be able to start anything new for a while, but if you'd like to be put in the queue send me a note and I'll add you to the waitlist.  Again I thank you all for your patience and interest in my work.

Best,
David

This month marks a decade of me on DeviantArt. Ten years ago I was in an odd spot when it came to my art. I was barely drawing anymore, I knew I'd continue to draw, but it lacked purpose. I tried for years breaking into the comic book industry, was constantly rejected and all other avenues for success in the art world seemed to be closed to me as well. At that point, anything I did was just for my own personal entertainment, or for friends and family. Then one day my friend :iconzanamaru: told me about DeviantArt. I first scoffed at the name of the site thinking it was a porno or some other weird art site. He assured me while art like that did exist, it was a legitimate art site with a grand community of professionals and fans alike. He showed me what he was doing on the site and convinced me to join. I still remember how nervous I was to submit my first image, after all of the outstanding work I saw here that made my work look like stick figures, would my stuff even be noticed? Luckily I was noticed and was met with overwhelmingly positive feedback. Over the years I have met and conversed with many great fans of my work and other fellow respected artists. It even led to some high profile commissions and opportunities that I don't think I'd ever get outside of DA. Looking back at some of my first posts here compared to my recent ones the drastic difference in technique and style is pretty noticeable. Before DA I did everything traditionally, my first illustration utilizing Photoshop is here for everyone to see and to look at it now it's almost cringe worthy. It is evident the constant bombardment of incredible art on DA has not only inspired but pushed me to be better at my craft over the years.

The main glue that has bound me to continue to produce new art and use DA as my first choice for posting new projects is because of my followers. I currently have 773 watchers, which I know isn't much compared to the big names on the site. Hell, I haven't even hit 100,000 page views yet. Who knows maybe over the next decade I'll blow up. ;) None-the-less I truly appreciate all of you, from all of the comments, questions, critiques, to the occasional commission. Thank you all for the last ten years, it has been and will continue to be my greatest pleasure creating art for you all to enjoy. And even though "they" will never hear it, thank you DA for giving my work a home and a purpose in my little corner of the world.
